St Rose of Lima Church History
History of Catholicism in Beaverhead County dates back to 1840 when Father Pierre Jean DeSmet said Mass at the mouth of "Hell Roaring Canyon" at Upper Red Rock Lake. Subsequent to this, Father Kelleher of Virginia City traveled to Dillon to attend to the local Catholics. After Father Dols was assigned Dillon's first rector, a brick church was built and dedicated to St. Rose of Lima in 1888. The current church in Dillon was built in 1929.
